Hey Lorin. I'm doing pretty good, thanks for asking. As it stands, I'm still on Nexium, however I'm no longer on Domperidone on a regular schedule. Most of my issues have started to resolve (the gastroparesis was upgraded to dyspepsia, so... uhm... yay?). Many started to resolve once my gallbladder was removed, but I've recently started getting symptoms of something, maybe post cholecystectomy syndrome. If that's the case then it'll be another round of tests to find out why that's happening.

As for herbs, Iberogast has been very helpful, as has DGL, so I do recommend both, but not as replacements for PPIs, especially if you have a weakened LES, which I think I do. (Are they going to re-do your wrap?) The weak LES is why weight is so very important to me. As it stands, I'm currently down to about 228 lbs (which means I've lost almost 100lbs in the past 4 years), and will try getting off the Nexium again when I get to 200 lbs or 18% bodyfat, whichever comes first. (Stomach fat = heartburn.) I've tried getting off the Nexium cold turkey, but after long term use there is definitely a rebound effect. Tapering off, along with alternative supplementation (Iberogast, DGL, aloe vera) will be my only out, once I lose the weight.

For the record, I, too, had the Bravo PH study done which, surprisingly, showed no acid reflux. Subsequent EGDs have shown that while I do get heartburn symptoms, and while Nexium does help, it seems things aren't quite as bad as I thought. (I do have borderline eosinophilic esophagitis (asthma of the esophagus) which was fired up due to the recent allergy season. I hate oak and oak hates me!)

I really hope you do well and that you come out OK. Please feel free to keep me updated. (If you have a Twitter account, feel free to add me, @gnorb.)

How are you doing now? I have gerd and ten years ago had a nissan wrap which work great until two months ago. Now I take 30 mg of Laprozale twice a day and have been having problems. Recently tried a ph test, but they couldn't keep the wire down. Next might be the Bravo test.

Heads up came a bit late: I no longer have my gallbladder. Turns out it wasn't just gallbladder dyskinesia, it was also stones, lots of them. Didn't show up in the scans, but once the surgeon got in there it was another story entirely. Seeing as I still have a digestive system, I'll nevertheless get more info on what you've suggested. As for the mushrooms, I don't know that I'll be able to find them in my area (I live next to the middle of nowhere), but I'll try. Thanks!

Did you try, for lazy gallbladder, thuja? 3-5 drops in a spoon of water.
I have the same disease, so I tried it and it seems to help. I also take Convolvulus arvensis-tincture: 1/2 teaspoon in water, after each meal and chelidonum majus -tincture: 20-30 drops in water, half hour after each meal. You may also try reishi spores and reishi mushrooms. It is good for digestion, too.

Kari: First off, good luck with Kai, and I hope your mom is doing well.

Thanks for the heads up. I might try the Activia, but I think what I'm doing now is starting to work. Between the Lansoprazole, the DGL and drinking Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with apple juice (2 tbsp of ACV for 8 oz of juice) right after means, my acid has been fairly well controlled. Still, I'll take the Activia into consideration, so long as I have my Lactase pills around. (I'm apparently lactose intolerant now. Not too badly so, mind you, but enough to cause... discomfort.)

Kai , my little boy, has a rare disorder that deals with his pancerus and him having issues digesting food like normal people. Well at his last doctors apt.. we were talking with a few different doctors about his issues.. and how it has gotten worse.. (he is up to 4-5 non-soild poopies again).. and sometimes throwing up after meals.. it isn't pretty... One doctor suggested we try Activia yograt on him for a week or two.. as it couldn't hurt and may actually help him.

Well.. we are on week two of the yograt .. he eats one a day.. and so far.. it is actually helping!!! He had one big soild poopie yesterday for the first time in a couple weeks.. and his poopie number is down.. and he just seems a lot more happier over all! We are gonna stick with it for awhile.. and see if it continues to help!!

Seeing we have tried almost every type of drug to help our little boy.. including huge horse like pills.. and forking out tons of money to see specialists.. I am just glad we found something that helps him a little..

My mother also has different digestive issues and it is helping her a great deal also!! and she recommends it to everyone she meets!

Best of all it isn't expensive .. only about the price of normal yograt!,,,I know our local paper did a lot of research into it.. and it is really helping a lot of people.. I just thought I would pass it on to you too.. maybe it could help you a bit also?
