I'll have to keep those in mind. Gotta remember, though, that I'm getting to this again after over a decade of not really touching it (if you don't count the Marvel & DC movies).

There was a whole series called

earth X and paradise X

ive read some of the latter one.

Utterly confusing. Its like every alternate universe imaginable has imploded itself into one series.

You know whats scary? Even the comic book guys at the stores around here cant explain to me this series line.

I get a bunch of confused looks and scrunched up faces which in any other scenario would be a sign that the person has diahrea but is too embarrased to run to the bathroom.

I do however highly highly reccomend 'Legendary Couple' which is like a comic manga mix though its VERY hard to come by.

Also the 'Inhumans' is one of my favorite comic series. Black bolt is the best superhero.....ever.

You're absolutely right. Usually alternate realities and dimensions are simply a tool used by writers to explain inconsistencies in the story line, like "Hey, didn't that person die? Twice?"
-
Still, the Civil War series isn't an alternate reality, it's a crossover. (Contrast this to DC's "Crisis of Infinite Earths", where they finally decided "Ok, enough with the billions of realities."
-
At any rate, I'm pretty interested in reading the Civil War series, but I might just wait 'till they're done with it. For the moment, I'm looking at the Age of Apocalypse, along with "Astonishing X-Men", which has as of late been written by Joss Whedon, the Firefily guy.

Got to be careful though.

I find a LOT of western comics take a massive downwards crash when they start talking about parallel universes, cloning, alternate dimensions and the likes.

Sometimes its ok if it is like a brief side adventure...but when it becomes the main focus...prepare for......

I dont remember actually

I think i blocked it out.
