In your head it’s only a memory, but written down it’s working knowledge

Saving Christmas for a Bunch of Kids

I just heard this through the grapevine. From NBC6 in South Florida:

Hundreds of toys destined for young cancer patients in South Florida were stolen in Broward County on Tuesday.

Each year, Broward County Fire Rescue and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue work together to hold a party for about 400 children at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

“We do an annual holiday party for kids in cancer treatment,” firefighter Walter Dix said.

But this year, Broward County’s share of the toys was stolen from a trailer.

Total worth of the toys stolen was about $5,000. Having heard about this, a friend of mine who was appalled by the news decided to take matters into her own hands: She called the county and wrote them a personal check for the $5,000.

(I’m keeping her identity quiet, but it is someone who I’ve come to highly respect, and even more so now. For the record, I heard this through the grapevine via trusted sources close to her: she hasn’t exactly come out and announced the issue. Never let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.)

Just thought I’d pass that along to warm your hearts a bit. Merry Christmas.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
