You know i think the area of the odor is actually growing. Either that or it stays with the car far longer after you have passed that area.

Between that and the smoke, im sure your nose must have been thrilled.

Nah, this place is about an hour or so south of Savana. I'm pretty sure there's some kind of sewage processing plant in the area. As for Savana, it actually smells a lot like Jacksonville, or some parts of it, since they both have paper mills. (If I remember my Florida history, that was a major industry in Jacksonville in the early part of the 20th century.)

As for NC, It must have been nice growing up there. The Wife and I have considered moving up there because of the lower living costs. (What we pay extra in rent here for a comparable place would more than make up for the taxes we would pay.) The weirdest thing about the state, though, is the people. In some places, like Asheville and Raleigh, I've encountered nothing but good natured, friendly folks. In Southern Pines, some seem to have forgotten their manners, especially those in the service industry. I can't say anything about Ithaca 'cause I haven't yet been there. (This is in stark contrast to Georgia where someone may race past you at 100 MPH, but they'll almost always be friendly, even smiling at you and waving 'Hi'. If nothing else, Georgia's been the friendliest state I've been to.)

I'm not exactly sure to which area of Georgia you refer to in your post, but I know that Savannah has quite an obnoxious odor. It's a paper mill, I believe.

I grew up in Marietta (north of Atlanta). It's really not so bad, once you get past the never-ending rush-hour traffic. I also spent a few years in NC - Winston-Salem and occasionally visit Raleigh. But I love Ithaca best of all :-)
